PREVIEW: UMD MEN'S HOCKEY SET FOR A HOME SERIES AGAINST WISCONSIN

THE MATCHUP No. 10 Minnesota Duluth will face-off  with Wisconsin this weekend in a home series. Since the teams started competing in 1967, Wisconsin holds the lead for the all-time record 93-61-15. Going into the weekend, UMD has an overall record of 2-2-0 and Wisconsin will enter with a 0-4-0 overall record. At home UMD has gone 2-0, where Wisconsin is 0-2 on the road. The teams last played for an exhibition game at Chippewa Falls Oct. 3, 2021 where UMD won 4-2. 

THE LAST TIMEOUT Minnesota Duluth dropped their first series on the road against Minnesota State. UMD was shutout 6-0 in game one and fell 2-1 in game two. Luke Loheit scored the lone goal on Saturday night while the Bulldogs were on a power play. His goal against the Mavericks was his first of the season and 11th of his career. Notching assists on the goal were Dominic James and Owen Gallatin

SET OF STREAKS For the first time this season, the Bulldogs will go into the weekend with back-to-back losses. As for the opponents, Wisconsin will enter the series having lost their first four games of the season. Including last season's, the Badgers have lost the last seven regular season games. Wisconsin was swept by both Ohio State and St. Cloud State. 

FACING OFF WITH THE BADGERS In the Big Ten conference Wisconsin is ranked third and 12th nationally for face off win percentage. The Badgers hold a percentage of .544. Leading the Badgers in face-offs wins is Charlie Stramel with a season total of 37-28. For the Bulldogs, their face off percentage sits at .421 and James leads UMD with a total of 32-28.  

PENALTY STRUGGLES Wisconsin has totaled 15 penalties and allowed five goals during the penalty kill. In addition to struggling to kill off penalties, the Badgers have had a hard time finding the back of the net on the power play. With 12 power play opportunities, they have only scored once. The Bulldogs also have had their struggle with penalties. Minnesota Duluth has had 14 power play opportunities, but has only notched four power play goals. UMD has taken 16 penalties this season and has allowed six goals during the penalty kill. 

BADGERS GOALTENDING Senior Jared Moe has been the primary goaltender for the Badgers this season. Moe has played in three games for a total of 176 minutes. In the three games Moe has had 12 goals against, four being power play goals, and one being short handed. He has made a total of 94 saves for a save percent of .887. 

MILESTONE MOMENT Senior Luke Loheit is just one game away from playing 100 games with the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. 

HOME SWEET HOME The teams will face off at AMSOIL Arena Friday Oct. 21 at 7:07 p.m. and then again on Saturday Oct. 22 at 6:07 p.m.
