BULLDOGS FIRE UP THEIR OFFENSE IN A 2-1 WIN AGAINST THE DRAGONS

The University of Minnesota Duluth Soccer team beat Minnesota State Moorhead 2-1 today in Moorhead, MN. The Dragons scored a late goal, but it was not enough to lift them past the Bulldogs. UMD had offensive control for most of the match, giving the Dragons' defense a hard-fought battle.

The Bulldog offense was off to a strong start, maintaining the majority of the possessions in the first half. UMD's offense had early opportunities thanks to sophomore Anna Tobias and senior Hannah Caldwell. They both had a shot a piece in the first half, narrowly missing the goal to make it a 1-0 game.

There were a few close calls for the Bulldogs when the Dragons were able to slip past their defenses and test out Junior Goalkeeper Jenny Norris. Norris had two saves in the first half, coming from the Dragons two corner kicks of the half.

Early in the second half the Dragons were out on top, testing the UMD defense with two corner kicks in the first ten minutes. The Bulldogs would change that only minutes later when senior Erin Walpole notched the first goal of the game. Walpole scored off a header assisted by Eliana Marciano

Marciano would continue to make her mark against the Dragons when she scored her own goal minutes later, when she capitalized on a free kick. Jackie Jares would try and keep the goal streak alive with a goal of her own but was stopped by the Dragon goalkeeper.

The Bulldogs allowed their first goal in two games when the Dragons scored their only goal of the day. The Dragons started their rally too late, scoring with 7 seconds remaining in the second half.

The Bulldogs improved their record to 6-4-3 and will be back at Malosky stadium on Sunday, Oct. 23 where they take on the Northern State Wolves. Kickoff at 1:00pm.
