UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.

After leading the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in scoring over the weekend, Gabbie Hughes was named the league's Forward of the Week on Monday.

The graduate student  senior rang up six points against Harvard University, including a goal and five assists, and factored in almost half of the Bulldogs goals on the weekend (13 total). After two assists Friday night, including on the game-winner in UMD's 4-0 win, Hughes returned with a goal and three assists for a four-point performance Saturday night, helping the Bulldogs to a 9-0 blowout of the Crimson.

The Lino Lakes, Minn. native has enjoyed consistent success against Harvard in the last year -- Hughes has rung up an average of 3.00 points per game over the past year in four games with the Crimson, including a hat trick in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last March. In her last four games for the Bulldogs, Hughes has notched at least a point in each skate, and now has eight points (1g, 7a) over that four-game scoring spree.

With a goal Saturday, Hughes also becaome the ninth player in program history to reach 75 career goals, tying her with Laura Fridfinnson in the ninth spot all-time.  Hughes is also closing in on 200 career points -- a mark reached by only six UMD players ever -- and now has 190 (75g, 155a) in 142 games.

Hughes and the Bulldogs will take a week off from outside competition before hosting No. 1 Ohio State University in a 2022 NCAA title tilt rematch on Dec. 2-3 at AMSOIL Arena.
