UMD MEN'S HOCKEY DROPS FIRST CONFERENCE GAME TO COLORADO COLLEGE

Box Score Minnesota Duluth drops their first conference game to Colorado College in a 5-0 final decision. The Bulldogs now have an overall record of 4-5-0, and a record of 0-3 on the road. 

As the Bulldogs were 32-29 in face off wins, Dominic James recorded 11 wins throughout the night. UMD led the night with shots on goal 34-27. Ben Steeves led the Bulldogs with seven shots on goal during game one against the Tigers.

The Bulldogs encountered a challenging start to the game. In the first period UMD took two penalties. Colorado College, currently ranked 15th in the country for power play percentage, tallied a goal during each penalty in the first. The Tigers also scored two even strength goals to bring them to a 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs at the end of the first. The Bulldogs, however, out-shot the Tigers 23-17 during the first period. Zach Stejskal totaled 18 saves in the first period.

Early in the second, the Bulldogs killed off the Tiger's sole power play opportunity. At 4:42 Colorado College recorded their fifth goal of the game. The teams were evenly matched in shots on goal 22-22, but the Bulldogs were unfortunately held scoreless through the period. In the second, Matthew Thiessen made 21 saves, while allowing only one goal. 

The third period ended scoreless for both teams. UMD took back-to-back penalties, putting them at a two man disadvantage for two minutes. The Bulldogs successfully killed off both penalties. With 23 shots on goal, UMD led CC in the third period. Thiessen made a total of 14 saves by the end of the period. The 'Dogs went 13-6 in face-offs during the third.

Up Next Minnesota Duluth will be back tomorrow night for game two against Colorado College. Puck will drop at 7 p.m. CT.
