GIGUERE LEADS BULLDOGS TO 5-1 VICTORY OVER ST. CLOUD

Behind a three-point game from Elizabeth Giguere, the No. 5 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs defeated the St. Cloud State Huskies by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn. Giguere's third point of the game would also be her 275th career point. The victory gives the Bulldogs three-straight wins and gives them a 17-8 overall record on the season.

On the afternoon, Kylie Hanley, Mannon McMahon, Taylor Anderson, Gabbie Hughes, and Giguere all found the back of the net. In addition to Giguere's third-point night, Hanley and McMahon each tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Sophomore goaltender Jojo Chobak got the start in net and made 17 saves off 18 St. Cloud shots for her fourth win of the season.

"Giguere was fantastic," said Head Coach Maura Crowell. "Not everyone would be able to put that one away. She made a great shot to beat a very good goaltender. She was key for us today. It was good to get the experience of a Tuesday game, since we'll be doing it again in a few weeks. I think once we settled in, we played some really dominant hockey today."

In the first period, a roughing penalty to Hughes would give St. Cloud the first power-play opportunity of the game just six minutes in. However, UMD would kill-off the penalty without surrendering a shot to the Huskies. Following the successful penalty-kill, the Bulldogs went on the attack. While in her own zone, Hanley banked the puck into the neutral zone where Giguere picked it up with space. After gaining the Huskies blueline, Giguere spotted Hughes wide open in the St. Cloud slot. A quick snapshot from Hughes beat the Huskies netminder to open the scoring. UMD would take a 12-4 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Bulldogs wasted no time adding to their lead in the second period. Just 16 seconds in, Hanley finished-off a beautiful 3-on-2 passing play. After carrying the puck into the St. Cloud Zone, Klein hit Giguere at the top of the zone. Giguere one-touched the puck to a cutting Hanley who beat the SCSU netminder to extend UMD's lead. For Hanley, the goal was her fifth of the season and extended the Minnesota Duluth to 2-0 early in the second. UMD wasn't done yet. A few minutes later, a bouncing puck in the Huskies slot was tipped home by Anderson to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Skinner and Chobak each picked up assists on the play. For the sophomore Chobak, the assist is the first point of her collegiate career. The ice continued to open following the goal. After a clean 2-on-1 break-in, McMahon shoveled a cross-crease pass to Giguere who was positioned to the side of the SCSU net. Giguere lifted a backhand shot over the blocker of the Huskies goalkeeper to tally her third point of the game and extend UMD's advantage to 4-0. The Bulldogs would take a 4-0 lead and a 32-11 shot advantage into the third period of play.

UMD continued to control the game in the third period. Just four minutes in, Clara Van Wieren made a series of slick moves to setup a finish by McMahon on the back door. The goal gave the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead heading towards the end of regulation. With just over a minute remaining in the game, a UMD turnover would lead to St. Cloud's only goal of the game, making it a 5-1 final from St. Cloud, Minn.
