On Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, the Minnesota Duluth women's track & field squad competed at both the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic and the Maday Classic. The Bulldogs posted numerous personal bests during each meet to cap off an impressive weekend.
At the SDSU Indoor Classic on Friday night,
Julia Nielsen and
Alexandra Robran each posted personal bests in the women's 5000 meter run. For Nielsen, her mark of 16:58.32 is a new personal best, and also the ninth fastest time in NCAA Division ll. For Robran, a time of 17:52.13 is good enough for 4th fastest in the NSIC, as well as it being a personal record. The Bulldogs also took the top spot in the distance medley with a time of 12:08.73. UMD's team of
Josie Bond,
Rachel Boelke,
Isabelle Brezinka, and
Morgan Radel earn the Bulldogs a first-place finish and five points towards the team leaderboard. On Saturday afternoon, Bond stepped up in the one mile run with a PR time of 4:58.31, which was good enough for fourth-place in the competition. Bond's time would also be a provisional time. In the women's 800 meter run, both Boelke and Brezinka would set new personal records. Brezinka's PR mark of 2:13.87 was good enough for a top ten finish, while Boelke also posted a PR time of 2:19.40 in the event.
"
Julia Nielsen is one of the elite distance runners in NCAA Division ll," said Head Coach
Karly Brautigam. "She proved it at SDSU. One of the things I love about the DMR relay is that it allows out women's group to flex our range and variety of strengths in the middle distances. Our distance women took over at SDSU and are thriving under Coach Jensen's training."
At the Maday Classic in Superior, Wis.
Bryn London notched a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 4.80m. The jump for London also garnered first-place at the event. The Bulldogs also took home first-place finishes in the triple jump, high jump, and the one mile run. In the 60m finals, both
Chloey Evans (8.49) and
Lindsey Root (8.41) secured PR times for UMD.
