Despite outshooting No. 9 North Dakota for a second-straight night, the No. 7 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs dropped game two by a score of 3-2 on Saturday evening in Duluth, Minn. On the night, the Bulldogs would outshoot the Fighting Hakws 35-29. The loss drops UMD to 15-13-3 overall on the season and 8-8-3 in NCHC play.
UMD sophomore goaltender
Zach Stejskal made his first start since Oct. 15 and made 26 saves on 29 Fighting Hawks shots. The 26 saves is a season-high for Stejskal. After tallying a goal on Friday evening,
Kobe Roth notched a goal and an assist during Saturday's loss.
Luke Mylymok registered his first goal of the season in just his third game, while
Koby Bender chipped in two assists.
Unlike Friday night, UMD flipped the script on Saturday and came out flying in the first period. Midway though the first period, an interference pentalty to UND gave the Bulldogs a power-play opportunity. While on the man-advantage, Bender hit Roth with a cross-zone pass. Roth spotted Mylymok camped out in front of the North Dakota net. Roth one-touched a pass to Mylymok who deflected a shot past UND's Zach Driscoll to get UMD the 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the year for Mylymok and first since UMD's five overtime victory over North Dakota last season. The Fighting Hawks would answer with a goal of their own before the end of the period and the teams would skate into the first intermission tied at one.
Multiple goals from North Dakota in the second period would give the Fighting Hawks a 3-1 advantage heading into the third. In the third period, UMD came out firing and got a timely goal from Roth to draw within one. On the scoring play, Bender would make a crisp pass out of the corner to Roth who has cutting towards the UND net. Roth one-timed a shot past Driscoll. The goal came just three minutes into the final period and gave UMD hope. Though they would outshoot North Dakota 19-10 in the third period, the comeback bid would come up short for the Bulldogs.
