Following a split with No. 9 St. Cloud last weekend, the Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team has jumped to No. 10 in the USCHO.com National Poll, the website announced on Monday morning.
UMD garnered a total of 494 rank points to note a spot in the national top ten. The Bulldogs entered last week as the No. 11 team in the nation. It was the first time all season that UMD had been ranked outside of the national top ten. Six NCHC teams appeared in this week's poll. No. 3 Denver, No. 5 North Dakota, No. 7 Western Michigan, No. 9 St. Cloud, and No. 18 Omaha all joined UMD in the poll.Â
This past weekend, the Bulldogs used a 3-2 overtime come-from-behind victory on Friday night to defeat St. Cloud. Despite outshooting the Huskies on Saturday evening, the Bulldogs fell 2-0.Â
The regulation loss on Saturday night means that UMD will head to St. Cloud next weekend for the first-round of the NCHCÂ Playoffs. Entering Saturday evening, the Bulldogs needed just a point to secure fourth place in the NCHC standings and host St. Cloud next weekend. However, UMD will hit the road for a best of three series against the Huskies beginning on Friday.
