FANTI, CATES EARN ALL-NCHC HONORS

Colorado Springs, CO - A pair of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs have earned All-NCHC honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. UMD junior goaltender Ryan Fanti has been named First-Team All-NCHC, while senior captain Noah Cates has earned All-NCHC Honorable Mention recognition.

In 31 games for the Bulldogs this season, Fanti has tallied a 1.97 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. A native of Thunder Bay, Ont., Fanti has a 15-11-4 record on the season with four shutouts. A few weeks ago, Fanti was named a semifinalist for the 2022 Mike Richter Award as the nation's top men's hockey goaltender. In November, Fanti earned HCA's National Goaltender of the Month honors. In eight games through November, Fanti rolled off a 5-2-1 record, while noting four shutouts in the process. Additionally, Fanti secured a 1.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .957 during the eight game stretch. Additionally, Fanti was the NCHC's goaltender of the Month for November, as well being named the conference's goalie of the week twice this season.

Also playing in 31 games this season, Cates has notched eight goals and eleven assists for 19 points. For Cates, it's the fourth time in his career that he's garnered NCHC honors. During his freshman year in 2018-19, Cates was named to the NCHC's All-Rookie Team. Cates then grabbed a spot on the  NCHC's First-Team in 2019-20 after tallying 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 34 games. During the 2020-21 season, Cates took home NCHC Second-Team honors. This past February, Cates became the ninth American, and 14th UMD men's hockey player to represent their country in the Olympics. He also became the first men's hockey player since Justin Faulk in 2014 to suit up for Team USA.

Fanti and Cates will meet the Huskies this weekend in the NCHC quarterfinals in St. Cloud. It'll be a best of three series, with game one taking place on Friday night.
