Aberdeen, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Duluth women's track & field squad noted a ninth place overall finish at the 2022 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D. As a team, the Bulldogs posted a total of 32 points across three days of competition to earn a spot in the conference's top ten.
"Our senior women have been fantastic leaders and have shaken up our record books," said Head Coach
Karly Brautigam. "We are grateful for the time they've dedicated to this program. They've done so much for our middle distance and distance groups. Really excited to see what the future holds for our younger bulldogs."
On the track, UMD received their best performances from
Isabelle Brezinka,
Haleigh Reindl and
Savannah Schley in the women's 800 meter finals. In the 800, Brezinka would take home third place on the individual leaderboard thanks to a mark of 2:12.52. The third place finish from Brezinka would be UMD's best individual finish of the NSIC Championships. In the same event, Reindl and Schley would finish fifth and sixth on the leaderboard with times of 2:14.08 and 2:14.87, respectively.
Julia Nielsen would continue her strong weekend by earning two podium finishes on the day. A fourth place finish was earned by Nielsen in the 10000 meter run, after she secured a time of 37:03.28. Then in the 5000 meter run, Nielsen's time of 17:34.77 would be good enough for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. Also in the 10000 meter run, Alex Robran would earn eighth place overall after noting a mark of 37:52.22. UMD's best performance on the day would come from their 4x400 relay team of
Rachel Boelke, Schley, Reindl and Brezinka. In the event, the team would combine for a time of 3:54.39, which would be good enough for second place overall in the conference. Another Bulldogs' relay team of
Megan Gilles,
Lindsey Root, Chloey Evens and
Jacqi Rae would take home eighth place in the women's 4x100 meter relay. The team earned the finish after tallying a time of 49.55.
