The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team fell 2-0 to the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Bulldogs remained evenly matched throughout the match but could not convert opportunities into scores like their opponents.
Offensively the Bulldogs put up three shots, while SMSU put up four.
Jackie Jares led the charge with two shots and
Sarah Stange followed with one. The Bulldog's defense was led by Goalkeeper
Jennifer Norris who faced six shots and finished with two saves.
SMSU would score midway through the first half. They scored on their first shot attempt off a long shot that slipped through UMD's goalkeeper.
UMD would come out firing in the second half, keeping the ball in the Mustang's zone for the first few minutes. The Mustangs would recover from the shock of the Bulldog's offensive push and score their second goal.
The Bulldogs return to James S. Malosky Stadium next weekend for their homecoming game against the Bemidji State Beavers and Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm on Friday, Sept. 30.
