Minnesota Duluth fell 6-1 in the final game of the road series with the Omaha Mavericks. The Bulldogs were swept on the road for the second time this season.
Scoring the lone goal for UMD tonight was
Isaac Howard, with assists from
Luke Johnson and
Cole Spicer. With the primary assist, Johnson recorded his first collegiate goal.
The Mavericks took an early two goal lead just 5:24 into the game. Just over half way through the first period, Howard carried the puck from the defensive blue line and sent the puck to the top shelf. At the end of the first UMD was down 2-1 but led shots 11-10.
The second period was scoreless for both UMD and UNO. UMD took their first penalty of the night for too many men on the ice. The Bulldogs killed the penalty off and held Omaha to just one shot on goal. UMD continued to lead shots through the end of the period 12-9.
Going into the third period down by only one goal, the Bulldogs made a valiant effort to tie the game up. Omaha went on a break away at 2:32 and netted their third of the night. UMD pulled
Zach Stejskal from the goal to have the man-advantage at 2:25. Starting with an empty net goal, the Mavericks scored a series of three more goals, to finish 6-1.
UP NEXT Minnesota Duluth will take another road trip for a series against North Dakota next weekend Jan. 20-21.
