UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
Two University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players landed Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week honors Monday --
Reece Hunt was named the WCHA Forward of the Week, while Ève Gason was Named the WCHA's Goaltender of the Week.
Hunt figured in five of the eight goals UMD scored in their series sweep over the Univeristy of St. Thomas, turning in two goals and three assists for 2.50 points per game average. The product of Nelson, B.C. posted back=to-back multiple point games for the Bulldogs against the Tommies, and tied for the second most point, goals goals and first most assists on the weekend. The graduate forward now has 13 points in 10 games for the Bulldogs (6g, 7a), and has notched points in her last four games (3g, 4a for seven points).
Gascon earned her third shutout in six starts Saturday in UMD's 4-0 win. The rookie from Mascouche, Quebec has now posted clean sheets in her last two starts and has a 1.17 GAA overall. Gascon is tied for the second most shutouts in the NCAA and the only freshman to have recorded three. Gascon previously earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors back on Oct. 23.
The Bulldogs are off from outside competition this week, but will return to AMSOIL Arena next weekend to face the No. 4 University of Minnesota in a Friday-Saturday series that gets underway Friday at 6:00 p.m.
