Both the University of Minnesota Duluth's men's and women's basketball teams found themselves in the initial list of candidates to host the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament, the league revealed on Tuesday.
This first look at the status of the Central region in both the men's and women's space simply lists ten teams that are still in the hosting hunt, in alphabetical order rather than in any type of definitive arrangement.
No. 11 UMD women's basketball currently sits with a 22-3 overall record (the same as its in-region record) and a 19-1 mark in NSIC play. The most recent edition of the D2SIDA's Regional Rankings placed the Bulldogs right at No. 1 in the Central, receiving all of the six possible first place votes in the process. UMD men's basketball holds an 18-8 record overall, a conference standing of 14-6 and a regional mark of 17-8. The squad currently slots in at No. 8 in the D2SIDA's latest estimation of the Central Region.
The NCAA will showcase its first true rankings of each of the league's regions next Wednesday.
