The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs lost their last home game 4-1 to the Miami Redhawks. Despite the loss, UMD picked up three conference points this weekend. They are now 14-17-1 overall and 9-13-0 in conference play. 
The lone goal scorer for UMD tonight was 
Isaac Howard with assists from 
Derek Daschke and 
Luke Mylymok. The Bulldogs killed off five of their six penalties tonight and end the game with shots on goal 51-24 in the their favor. UMD also went 34-25 in the face-off circle. 
The Bulldogs got off to a rough start in the first period. Shortly after killing off their first penalty at the halfway point of the period, the Redhawks found the back of the net to gain a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded back at 15:55. Mylymok passed the puck off to Daschke who fired a shot on net. Howard took Daschke's shot to the chest where the puck landed at his feet and he sent the puck high glove side and tied the game. UMD took one more penalty at the latter end of the period in which Miami scored again to finish the period 2-1. Although trailing by one at the end of the first, UMD led shots on goal 15-12. 
As the Bulldogs entered the second period looking to tie it up, they had another rough period. They went on their second power play just two minutes into the second. After an unsuccessful power play, Miami would find the back of the net for a third time. UMD killed off their fourth penalty to keep it a two goal game at the end of the period. The 'Dogs continued to lead shot on goal at the end of the second 16-9. 
UMD showed a good effort in the first half of the third period. The Bulldogs held puck possession in the offensive zone for a good portion of the first 10 minutes. UMD took their fifth penalty but was successful in killing it off. After the Bulldogs were held off on their two-minute power, they pulled the goalie at 3:14 remaining. After a strong effort with a sixth man on the ice, a Redhawk skater found the loose puck and sent it across the rink into the empty net, and sealed the deal 4-1. 
UP NEXT The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will head to St. Cloud next weekend March 3-4 for their last conference series of the season.
