BULLDOGS SET FOR DOUBLE HEADER IN DULUTH AT LAST

The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team will stay home at last for a double header against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears at Wade Stadium April 13. First pitch times are slated for 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

UMD is looking to improve on their 5-12 (12-18 overall) record with a pair of wins over the Golden Bears. After a non-conference split between the two teams earlier in the season, the Bulldogs are ready to get after it. 

Sophomore Ethan Cole leads the way for the Bulldogs with a .371 batting average and 24 RBIs on the season. Freshman Gabe Richardson sits second on the team with 21 RBIs and Senior Tim Pokornowski rounds out the Bulldogs in third with 14

Defensively for the Bulldogs, Brayden Buttweiler still leads the charge with 32 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.86. Mason Thiel sits second with 23, eight coming from the most recent Minnesota State series. Alex Wattermann, who set the UMD saves record against Wayne State, is sitting in third with 18. Wattermann has six saves on the season. 

Concordia will prove to be a worthy opponent as they currently sit 8-6 in NSIC play (12-15 overall) and 6th overall in conference standings. Historically, this has been an evenly matched pairing, with a 12-14 record going in favor of the Golden Bears. The last matchup went to the Bulldogs earlier this season when the two teams met for a non-conference matchup. 

Wattermann led the charge on the mound in their last matchup, coming away with the 5-4 win and Richardson notched three RBIs. The Bulldogs had five runs on 12 hits in their last matchup.

The games will take place at Wade Stadium in West Duluth and tickets will be priced at $5 at the gate. First pitch is at 10:30 Thursday morning with game two immediately following.
