University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey current seniors Mannon McMahon and Taylor Stewart have each accepted their additional season of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-10 pandemic, and will return to Bulldogs for a final collegiate hockey season.
McMahon and Stewart, the lone seniors on the Bulldogs heavily-laden fifth year senior squad this past season, will bring their three-time NCAA Tournament experience back to the locker room with them. Over their careers to date, UMD is 83-41-10 overall and 5-3 in the NCAA postseason, which includes two NCAA Frozen Four appearances.
McMahon is coming off a career-best offensive season where the Maple Grove, Minn. native compiled 29 points on 11 goals and 18 assists (both career highs). With two game-winning goals, McMahon scored six goals and added five assists against teams ranked in the top-12. A three-time All-WCHA All-Academic Team member, McMahon was also named an WCHA Scholar Athlete for third-straight year.
Stewart, who notched both goals in the Bulldogs 2-0 win over Clarkson University in the NCAA First Round in March, also posted a career-high for points (five) and goals (four) this past season. The Rochester, Minn. is a heralded three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, as well as a three-time All-WCHA All-Academic Team member.
McMahon and Stewart helped UMD to the second stingiest defense in the nation this past year, a program-low 1.34 team goals against average. The Bulldogs posted back-to-back 20 plus win seasons, and went 26-10-3 in 2022-23.
