BULLDOGS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE AFTER SWEEP OF THE UMARY MARAUDERS

The University of Minnesota Duluth softball team extended their win streak up to five after a pair of conference wins over the UMary Marauders Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs once again showcased their defensive abilities with 3-0 and 4-2 wins, bringing their overall conference record to 5-1 (19-6 overall).

Once again the Bulldogs defense came up big this afternoon, only allowing two runs and six hits total on the day. Lauren Dixon continued her success on the mound again ending the weekend by not allowing any runs scored and finished the weekend with 29 strikeouts, 14 came from today's performance against the Marauders.

Game one started in favor for the Bulldogs as they were able to get one on the board early in the first inning. Sidney Zavoral gets the RBI for run number one as Corrie Weise scores. The score would remain stagnant thanks to a strong performance on the mound by Dixon, which kept the Marauders scoreless.

The Bulldogs would notch another run in the fourth inning thanks to a number of singles and strong base running from the Bulldogs. In the end it would be Nicole Schmitt who knocked in the RBI, bringing the score to 2-0

The Bulldogs collected one more run in the top of the fifth inning. Weise would be the game winner after a walk and two stolen bases and a wild pitch, finalizing game one's score at 3-0.

Game two had a different tone for the Bulldogs. After a weekend of scoreless opponents, the Marauders were able to notch two early runs in the second inning. It wouldn't be until inning four that the Bulldogs were put on the board. Kiana Bender notched her first RBI of the game with a sacrifice bunt, which scored Schmitt and cut the Marauder lead to one.

However, the Bulldogs had had enough by the sixth inning. The Bulldogs knocked in two more runs to take the lead, thanks to freshman Kendal Jenkins. Jenkins smashed her first double of the day to center field to score both Dea Deleon and Bender. Kat Burkhardt would then notch an RBI of her own to round the score up to 4-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Allyssa Williams would hold strong for the Bulldogs and keep the Marauders from home plate, finalizing the score at 4-2. Allison Luoma would notch the win on the day and Williams was credited with the save.

After months on the road, the Bulldogs will finally be able to play at home against Northern State at Malosky Stadium April 5. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 PM immediately followed by game two.
