The University of Minnesota Duluth softball team's potential matchups for its first NSIC Tournament contest were revealed when the league released the official bracket on Sunday night. The Bulldogs will play the highest seed to come out of the tourney's first two contests, those being between seventh-seeded Minot State/ 10th-seeded Bemidji State and eighth-seeded Sioux Falls/ninth-seeded Concordia-St. Paul. Both games are slated for Wednesday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. Regardless of who it is the Bulldogs end up playing, they'll do so later that same day at 2:00 p.m. All NSIC Tournament games will take place at the RYFSA Complex in Rochester, Minn.
UMD will square off against the higher-seeded team as a result of its second-place finish in the NSIC's regular-season rankings. After finishing first in the conference, Augustana will play the lower-seeded squad.
The tournament is double-elimination style, meaning it'll take two losses to knock any given team out of competition. Squads move to the right side of the bracket after suffering their first defeat.
Whoever's crowned NSIC Tournament Champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as part of the Central Regional. The NCAA's Central Region is made up of 42 teams split across the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Eight of those squads qualify for the Regional, composed of each conference tournament winner and five at-large selections.
Selections for the Division II NCAA Softball Tournament will be revealed on NCAA.com on Monday, May 8. The championships will run from May 25-29 at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn.
