Clara Van Wieren, along with three Bulldog alums, were named to the 2023 USA Hockey Women's National Festival Tuesday.
McMahon, who will make her USA Hockey senior level debut, and now twice-selected Van Wieren, will join recently graduated forward

Maggie Flaherty, along with goaltender
Maddie Rooney at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York August 7-13. The five are part of a initial group of 77 athletes invited by USA Hockey, and the college athletes will have the opportunity to make the U.S. Collegiate Select Team that will face Canada for a three-game series August 16-19 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
McMahon set a career mark offensively last season, posting 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points, and was named the Bulldogs captain for the 2023-24. Van Wieren, named a 2023-24 alternate captain for UMD, posted 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists.
Flaherty makes her return to the USA Hockey senior level, while Hughes is back after helping the U.S. clinch gold at the IIHF World Championship in April. Rooney, long a stalwart of the USA Hockey program, is now a two-time Olympic medalist, having backstopped the U.S. to a gold medal in 2018 and a silver in 2022. In all, four of the five total UMD players selected skated for the Bulldogs over the 2022-23 season.
The roster for the the U.S. Under-18 Select Team and U.S. Collegiate Select Team will be named at the conclusion of camp. Both the U.S. Under-18 Select Team and U.S. Collegiate Select Team will face Canada for a three-game series Aug. 16-19 in Lake Placid, N.Y. The full series schedule can be found below.
