UMD Soccer Hosts Augustana and Wayne State This Weekend

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team looks to earn a winning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record with games against Augustana University and Wayne State College this weekend.

UMD earned their first conference win last Sunday, shutting out Minnesota Crookston 5-0. The excitement included three goals from junior Anna Tobias, which broke the NCAA DII women's soccer record for fastest hat trick.

The Bulldogs aim to build off the offensive showing in the second half Sunday.

Augustana

UMD won their most recent match up against AU 1-0, on Oct. 16, 2022.

AU was ranked second in the NSIC preseason coaches' poll and had two players, goalkeeper Jillian Barkus and forward Grace Douglas, were named NSIC players to watch.

Douglas is still on the hunt for her first points this season, but led returning players in points last season. Barkus has been in net for AU in all six games so far this season, earning a 0.840% save percentage.

Hope Korte currently leads the Vikings in goals and points. The Mendota Heights, Minn. product scored in both games opening weekend for AU, as well as Sunday versus Winona State.

The Vikings have a 1-1-0 NSIC record going into this weekend, the same as the Bulldogs, after getting shut out by #7 Minnesota State, but bouncing back to beat Winona State.

UMD takes on AU 6 p.m. on Friday at Malosky Stadium.

Wayne State

The Bulldogs also beat Wayne State 1-0 most recently, last playing each other on Oct. 14, 2022.

WSC was ranked two spots below UMD in the NSIC preseason coaches' poll, tying Southwest Minnesota State for 11th out of 16 teams.

Fifth year Skylar Stueckrath leads the team in goals and points, including a hat trick against Minnesota Crookston in the Wildcats' season opener.

WSC boasts a 2-0-0 conference record, with a pair of 1-0 wins over Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State this past weekend. Upperclassmen Maia Vacks and Leah Bennett each scored a goal for the Wildcats.

UMD takes on WSC at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Malosky Stadium for Alumni Day.
