Box Score This evening, the University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team took to a foggy Griggs Field, facing off against conference opponent Augustana University.
Â
The Bulldogs beat Minnesota Crookston last Sunday at home, 5-0, and entered tonight's game hoping to start a win streak.Â
Â
However, the game ended in a 0-0 tie, bringing UMD's record to 2-3-2. This was the second tie of the season for the Bulldogs, the first coming earlier this month versus Michigan Tech (1-1).Â
Â
Both teams swarmed the ball early in the first half. UMD's senior goaltender Jennifer Norris made several key saves to keep the Vikings off the scoresheet.Â
Â
A yellow card on AU led to a penalty kick opportunity for the Bulldogs, but Anna Tobias' shot went high and the score remained 0-0 halfway through the first.Â
Â
At halftime, shots were 6-4 in favor of UMD, but shots on goal were even, 3-3. Sarah Stange led the Bulldogs with 2 shots.Â
Â
The fog lifted at the start of the second half, replaced by rain and strong winds, but neither team was deterred.Â
Fifteen minutes into the second, the Vikings had doubled their shots on goal. The Bulldogs had a handful of rushes, but no solid chances.Â
Â
As the conditions let up, neither goalkeeper did. Victoria Thorson's shot with three minutes left hit the crossbar, nearly ending the game's goal drought.Â
No one managed to convert, however, and the game ended scoreless.Â
Â
The Bulldogs play again on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Wayne State at Malosky Stadium.
