Bulldogs Run to a Record, Post Another Strong Outing at the Twin Ports Open

It was another strong outing for the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women;s indoor track and field teams Saturday at the Twin Ports Open inside the  Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In Superior, Wis.

 

The Bulldog women's 4x200 meter relay team ran to a school record of 1:45:28 and surpassed the former record of 1:46:27 set in 2006. The new record holders are Megan Gilles, Kate Fitzgerald, Jordan Grell and Jacqi Rae.

 

Gilles, a junior,  was one of five women to win their races, running to a win in the 200 meters. Four other Bulldogs notched wins on the track – including freshman Emily Bastin in the 400 meters, junior Savannah Schley, who turned in a personal best of 1:35:84 in the 600 meters that also doubles as the best time so far this season in all of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Freshman Sarah Baum ran first in the 800 meters (also a personal best of 2:26:61) and freshman Rachel Ulrich was tops  in the 1000 meters with her top NSIC time of 3:02:84.

 

On the men's side of the track, three Bulldogs earned wins in their races, with freshman Brady Johnson taking the 200 meters race, sophomore Sam Blomberg  a win in the 200 meter hurdles and Finn Youberg first in the 1000 meters with a personal best time of 2:31:98.The Bulldogs also earned a win in the 4x200 with Cole Brisbois, Johnson, Ted Rodgers and Nicholas Westphal running a 1:31:59. Owen Dickenson ran to a PR and also an NSIC fastest time of 8:35:35 in a fourth place finish in the 3000m.

 

UMD's women had plenty of top finishes in the field events, with a personal best effort from freshman Lauren DuBois in the high jump (1.60m), junior Sabrina Segar first place pole vault of 2.75m,  freshman Erin Steinman with the longest triple jump effort on the day and Kayce Gielski's weight throw of 16.00m.

 

Men's field first place finishers were junior Luke Oberleitner in the high jump and Eli Bicek in shot put and weight throw where the senior threw a personal best of 17.96m.
