UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.Â
For the fourth time this season, the University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team has an National Collegiate Hockey Conference Goaltender of the Week. Fifth year netminder Matthew Thiessen received the honor for his performance last weekend against Western Michigan University.Â
He had 37 saves in each of the games, the most total saves Thiessen's had in a series so far this season. He posted a .925 save percentage and averaged 3.02 goals allowed in the high-scoring series. Both games tied for second-most saves in a single game for the goaltender this season (47 saves, 11/4 vs. UMN).Â
Thiessen hit 50 career games right before this series. Ten of those came this season and 19 in the 2022-23 season. Before UMD, Thiessen played for the University of Maine.Â
The Bulldogs and Thiessen hit the ice again this weekend, with a home series against Miami University. UMD will take on MU at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.Â
