The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team returns home for another weekend full of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) face-offs, hosting the Northern State University Wolves and the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons at James S. Malosky Stadium.

Last Time Out

The Bulldogs were defeated in both of their weekend matchups in North Dakota, falling 2-1 to the Minot State University Beavers on Friday before falling to the University of Mary Marauders 3-2.

UMD fought to the very end against the Beavers, holding Minot scoreless until the 53rd minute of the second half and then equalizing the score soon after with the second goal of the season from freshman Gwedolyn Lilly. A penalty kick opportunity for the Beavers in the final minute found itself in the net and closed out another loss for the Bulldogs.

An early two goal deficit became the motivation for the Bulldog offense to open up in the second half, with senior Anna Tobias finding an opportunity on a corner kick to knock in her second goal of the season. Another Marauder goal in the second half was enough to keep the Bulldogs at bay despite a 40 yarder solo goal from Miriam Marsan after an intercepted goal kick.

Scouting Report - Northern State University Wolves

The Northern State Wolves are 5-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the NSIC throughout the 2024 season so far after falling to Bemidji State 1-0 and defeating Crookston 3-0 last weekend.

The Bulldogs played NSU twice throughout the 2023 season, defeating them at home 3-1 and pushing them to a 2-2 draw in Aberdeen. The two teams have faced off against each other once already in 2024, with the Bulldogs losing 2-0 on the road.

Bulldog soccer holds a 19-3-3 record over the Wolves throughout program history and a 8-2-2 record against them since 2013. 

Scouting Report - Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons

The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons are 1-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the NSIC throughout 2024 after taking the 2-2 draw with Crookston and losing 2-0 to Bemidji State last weekend.

The Bulldogs played the Dragons once in 2023, defeating them 2-1 on the road in Moorhead.

Bulldog soccer holds a 23-3-2 record against the Dragons throughout program history and a 9-0-2 record against them since 2013. 

Looking Ahead

Bulldog soccer will embark on the final road trip of the 2024 regular season next weekend with matchups against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars and the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs. Kickoff against the Cougars is currently scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 PM.
