No. 5 St. Cloud State Bests No. 24 UMD for Season Sweep

For the first time since 1995, the University of Minnesota Duluth will leave the regular season empty-handed against St. Cloud State Univeristy. The No. 5 Huskies came into Romano Gymnasium and swept the season series for the first time in 28 seasons, downing the No. 24 Bulldogs in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-15) on Thursday night.

St. Cloud State (15-2 overall, 9-0 NSIC) continued to roll as it collected its 11th straight victory. The Huskies finished the night with 45 kills and hit .362 for the match led by the reigning American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Year Kenzie Foley. Foley compiled a double-double on 17 kills and 12 digs as the high-octane offense was too much for UMD (9-8, 2-7 NSIC). The 1-2 punch of Foley and Hannah Bruskiewicz tallied 29 kills compared to the Bulldogs' 28 as a club. SCSU controlled much of the action throughout the three sets as the match featured just three lead changes -- all three of those occurring in the final set -- and UMD led for a total of six points.

Senior right side hitter Samantha Paulsen and sophomore right side hitter Madeline Guetzkow carried the Bulldog offensively each registering a team-high six kills. Senior setter Maddi Kealy dished out 14 assists and her setting counterpart freshman Ava Jones picked up 11 assists.

On the defensive end, graduate outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka and graduate libero Kaylyn Madison each dug out seven balls a piece as the Bulldogs ripped up 31 Husky attacks on the night. With her digging prowess, Madison moved into sole possession of eighth place among the Bulldog all-time dig charts passing Krista Naughton (1992, 94-96), whom had 1,408 career digs during her tenure. Madison can reach seventh and pass Julie Bubar (1990-93) for seventh with 29-dig effort on Saturday.

The Bulldogs returns to action on Saturday for another NSIC battle against the University of Minnesota Crookston at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, MInn. The two programs square off starting at 2:00 p.m.
