Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
After an electric collegiate debut Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena, University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey freshman forward
Jayson Shaugabay has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week.
The Warroad, Minn. native scored two goals and added an assist against Bemidji State University in the Bulldogs 4-3 overtime loss, having figured in each of UMD's tallies on the night. Shaugabay's point and goal output was the most by a Bulldog freshman in a debut game in at least 30+ years, and his list of firsts in a Bulldog sweater were many, including first goal, first assist, first power play goal, first two-goal game, first multiple-point game and first three-point game.
Shaugabay and the Bulldogs will head east this weekend to face the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Lowell, Mass. in a non conference series that gets underway Friday at 6:15 Friday CT before wrapping up Saturday at 5:05 p.m. CT.
