UMD Volleyball Downs Minot State Friday in Three Sets

The University of Minnesota Duluth made quick work of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match Friday night. The Bulldogs needed just 76 minutes of game action to defeat Minot State University in three sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) at Romano Gymnasium.

UMD netted its second straight win at home to push its overall record to 13-9 and grabbed a critical conference win to stay in contention for the NSIC postseason. The Beavers have now dropped 15 of the last 16 matches and remain winless in league action. The Bulldogs continue to assert their dominance in the all-time series as they have swept all 16 matchups since the two teams locked horns in the first-ever meeting in 2012.

A pair of Bulldog veterans move up the all-time charts. Graduate libero Kaylyn Madison jumped two spots to number five all-time among Bulldog dig leaders. Madison gathered 16 digs and shot past Keena Seiffert (2012-15) and Chelsea Meirotto (2003-06). Seiffert had 1,482 and Meirotto had 1,480 during their UMD tenures. Madison now has 1,488 collegiate digs.

Her graduate counterpart, outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka pounded home a match-high 11 kills to move past Sarah Kelly (2015-18) for ninth in kills at UMD. Kelly was five terminations ahead of Selbitschka with 1,309 entering tonight's match. Selbitcschka has now recorded 1,315 career kills during her four-year Bulldog stint.

UMD, as a unit, hit .320, the seventh highest clip of the season. The 49 kills were the most this season in a three-set match, as well, topping the previous total of 48 set against Michigan Tech on Sept. 13. The offense efficiency was key tonight as the Bulldogs extended their record to 11-1 this season when attacking at a .200-clip or better.

Sophomore middle blocker Paige Decker became the third Bulldog this season to compile six blocks in a three-set contest, joining senior right side hitter Samantha Paulsen and freshman middle blocker Elyse Karrels. Decker registered one solo block and assisted on five others to post her new career high.

Senior outside hitter Payton Addink amassed four service aces for the second time in the last three matches. She tied her career outing from last Friday night against Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon with their second-to-last home contest against the University of Mary. Match time is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
