James and Gajan Grab NCHC Player of the Week Honors

UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.

Two University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey players were named National Collegiate Hockey Conference weekly award winners Monday -- senior forward Dominic James earned NCHC Forward of the Week accolades, while freshman goaltender Adam Gajan was selected the NCHC Goaltender of the Week.

James led the conference with five points on a goal and four assists, including three primary assists over the weekend. The Plymouth, Mich. native was +6 and had eight shots on goal in the Bulldogs sweep over Miami University (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio. James currently ranks fourth in the NCHC with 15 points and third in the league in goals (seven). With 10 points over his past five games (5g, 5a), James has now been the NCHC's Forward of the Week twice so far this season.

Gajan locks down his first league honor after a two win weekend that started off with his first collegiate shutout on Friday night in UMD's 5-0 win. The Poprad, Slovakia native had 39 total saves -- including 21 in his clean sheet -- and a .950 saves percentage on the weekend and 1.00 GAA. Gajan also did not allow power play goal in six RedHawk attempts.

The Bulldogs have now had four weekly NCHC winners so far this season -- James twice (Oct. 21-27), Gajan and Jayson Shaugabay, who was the Rookie of the Week back on Oct. 4-6.

UMD is back at AMSOIL Arena this weekend when it hosts Western Michigan Univeristy in a Friday-Saturday series that gets underway Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
