Wallin and Henderson Earn WCHA Weekly Honors

UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.

University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players Olivia Wallin and Tova Henderson have been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Players of the Week -- Wallin the WCHA' Forward of the Week and Henderson the WCHA's Defender of the Week.

That pair had outstanding offensive weekends against Bemidji State University, with Wallin figuring in half of the Bulldog goals scored with three goals and two assists, and Henderson putting three goals on the Beavers -- a series-high effort of the junior defenseman.

Wallin netted her first UMD hat trick Friday night and the second of her collegiate career, in addition to an assist, for four points in UMD'2 8-1 win. A native of Oakville, Ontario, Wallin's hat trick securing goal also doubled as the 100th point of her collegiate career, her 49th tally scored. Wallin was one of two players to record a hat trick in the league this weekend and one of four to record three goals. Wallin led the league with a +6 plus/minus rating and now has 101 career points (49g, 52a).

Henderson had a career weekend as well, logging the first two-goal game as a Bulldog and three goals in a series. The blueliner -- the only one in the WCHA to have more than a single goal -- also added two blocks to her goal scoring prowess and was +4 on the weekend.

While the weekly honors are the first for Wallin and Henderson, they are the fourth and fifth so far for the Bulldogs as a team.

UMD (8-5-1, 7-4-1) will host the University of Vermont this weekend at AMSOIL Arena on Friday and Saturday. The non conference series gets underway Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and wraps up Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
