The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's indoor track and field teams will open up their seasons this Saturday, December 14th at the College of Saint Scholastica Opener inside the Burns Wellness Commons.
Â
"Our teams have been working all fall for the opportunity to open up the season Saturday and I could not be more excited to see the performances that come to fruition after all the hours spent in practice this fall and on the course in cross country," said head coach Karly Brautigam. "We have some talented newcomers that are opening their college careers and there is always something special about that. Of course, seeing our seniors open up their final seasons at the peak of their careers' is something to get excited about as well!"
Â
Both the men's and women's squads are expected to dominate at the Opener – last year the Bulldogs walked away with 14 event wins and 42 podium finishes.Â
Â
As for events to watch, look to the men's triple jump, where junior Will Heydt won the event last year in provisional fashion (14.64m).
Â
NSIC Athlete to Watch Junior Jackson Weston will also look to repeat his last season's victory in the men's weight throw, achieved with a toss of 16.93m.Â
Â
On the women's side, NSIC Athlete to Watch Sophomore Erin Steinman will look to improve on her jump of 11.07m in the triple, which landed her atop the podium at this meet in 2023.Â
Â
Kate Fitzgerald and Megan Gilles are also returning winners in the events of the 60m and 60m hurdles respectively.Â
Â
The Bulldogs will enjoy a month-long break from in-season competition before picking up on Friday, January 17th at Bearson Gathje Classic in Mankato, Minn.
