The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team closed out their three game homestand tonight in Romano Gymnasium, falling to the Winona State University Warriors 67-65 in their first overtime of the 2024-25 regular season.

UMD kept it close in the first quarter to open up the night, but entered the second frame of the game down 13-9.
The Bulldogs then cut the Warrior lead to 20-18 before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Grace Counts, to take a 23-20 lead. The Warriors cut into that lead, but UMD still enjoyed a 30-29 advantage heading into the halftime break. The Bulldogs were strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of their 21 points.
Following intermission, UMD continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 36-33 before collecting six unanswered points, punctuated by another basket from Grace Counts, to expand its lead further to 42-33 with 1:34 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the period, the Warriors had cut into that lead by one, but the Bulldogs still entered the fourth quarter with a 44-36 edge. UMD played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
The Bulldogs went on to surrender their advantage as Winona State forced overtime, out-scoring UMD 19-11 throughout the quarter and tying things up at 55-55 as time expired. The Bulldogs pulled down six offensive rebounds to score four second chance points out of 11 total in the period.
Winona State then edged ahead in overtime, leaving UMD behind 67-65 at the final buzzer.
Bulldog Notes vs. WSU
The Bulldogs had three players score in double figures, led by Johanna Miller, who tallied her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lexi Karlen also tacked on another double-double off the bench with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Lexi Karge helped out with 10 points.
UMD took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 16 assists on 24 made field goals. Myra Moorjani collected five assists to lead the distribution list for the Bulldogs and Maria Counts also contributed with three assists of her own.
UMD forced 14 Winona State turnovers throughout the night. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into eight points on the offensive end of the floor. Karlen's two steals led the way for the Bulldogs.
Looking Ahead
Bulldog women's basketball (4-7, 2-4 NSIC) will head to the Twin Cities this weekend to take on the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears before the holiday break. Tip-off against the Golden Bears is currently set for Saturday, Dec. 21, at 1:00 PM.
