Bulldogs Leave the Holst Invite With Meet Records and Podium-Topping Performances

The University of Minnesota Duluth track and field teams traveled down to St. Paul for the Holst Invitational today. The meet was highlighted by two meet records and seven podium-topping performances by Bulldogs. 

 

UMD set meet records on both the women's and men's sides. Savannah Schley ran a 2:13.19 800m, edging out the previous record of 2:13.75. In the men's 5k, Austin Antony ran a record-setting 14:52.63, beating the previous meet-best time by over 17 seconds. Second place's Lucas Selman also beat the previous record and set a personal best with a 15:05.23.

 

The women's team had two more first place finishes, both coming from sprinters. Megan Gilles ran the 100m hurdles in 15.27 and Kate Fitzgerald put together a 25.45 second 200m race.

 

UMD had yet another one-two finish, with Jordan Grell's 26.04 second 200m sprint following right behind. Grell ended the day with another second place finish, running the 100m race in 12.55 seconds. Fitzgerald added another podium finish as well, finishing second in the 400m with a personal best 59.59. 

 

In the women's 10k, Eve Anderson finished second overall, running a personal best 37:46.34. Her time ranked fifth in the Northern Sun Collegiate Conference. The top-two finishes by Bulldogs were rounded out by Francine Seidel's 800m run and Erin Steinman's long jump. Both finished in second, Seidel at 2:15.71 and Steinman at 5.10m. 

 

On the men's side, UMD ended the meet with four first place finishes. Sam Blomberg ran the 110m hurdles in 15.34 seconds, setting a new personal best. In field events, Eli Bicek also set a personal best, earning first overall with a hammer throw of 54.58m. Jaden Johnson's 1.90m high jump and Jackson Weston's 15.92m shot put throw earned the pair first place as well. 

 

Colton Kostynick had two second-place performances, throwing the shot put 15.84m and the discus 47.66m. Back on track, Ted Rogers and Brady Johnson had the last two second place finishes for the Bulldogs. Rogers ran the 400m in 51.01 seconds, while Johnson finished the 100m in 10.95 seconds.
