UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Classroom

Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community. 

Senior pitcher Lauren Dixon was named a 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic First Team All-American Tuesday, becoming the second Bulldog softball in program history to earn first team honors.

Named a 2023 CSC Second Team All-American a season ago, Dixon becomes the program's first-ever repeat Academic All-American after she also repeated as a CSC Academic All-District Team selection last month. She joins Valarie Hohol (2018) as the only other UMD softball player to land First Team All-American honors.

Dixon was named a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team All-Conference selection in April and named to the 2024 D2 Conference Commissioner's Association Second Team, as well as the 2024 NSIC's Preseason Player of the Year, rewrote UMD's career pitching record book to her liking this past season. The Sobieski, Wisc. native, capped the Bulldog career strikeout record at 821 with the addition of 236 – an NSIC-high – this season and owned a record of 23-6. Dixon, a two-time NSIC Pitcher of the Week and named to the NFCA D2 Pitcher of the Year Watchlist, also took over UMD career marks for wins (74), games completed (81), starts by a pitcher (105), and the innings pitched record at 659.1. The senior posted a 3.97 GPA this past year and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, and was named the UMD Athletic Department's E.L Duce Rasmussen Female Scholar-Athlete Award.

Dixon was the lone NSIC player to make a 2024 CSC Academic All-American Team.
