The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team will be heading to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in a preseason exhibition on Friday, Oct. 25, prior to the upcoming 2024-25 season.
This matchup over the University of Iowa's homecoming weekend will serve as a reunion for head coach Justin Wieck, who spent the final two years of his own collegiate career playing for the Hawkeyes.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our players and our entire program to compete against a premier Big Ten opponent. The experience our players will get in this challenging environment will be tremendous and will help us continue to prepare for the upcoming season."
"As a former Hawkeye Basketball player and lifelong Hawkeye fan, I'm thrilled to be stepping back into Carver-Hawkeye Arena with the Bulldogs on Homecoming Weekend in Iowa City. Thanks to Coach Fran McCaffery, Al Seibert and Matt Gatens for making this happen. My wife and I both grew up in Iowa City and graduated from the University of Iowa. Personally it will be a great experience for our entire family. We can't wait for the opportunity!" - Head Coach Justin Wieck
This will be the Bulldogs fourth exhibition game against a DI program under Wieck's direction, with the last one being against Drake University prior to the 2022-23 season. UMD is set to begin their regular season in early November, with a full schedule still yet to be finalized.
