This weekend the University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field teams will gear up to compete in their first meets following a month-long winter break. Both the men's and women's squads will kick things off Friday, Jan. 17 in Mankato, Minn. at the Bearson-Gathje Classic, and then at the University of Wisconsin Superior's Twin Ports Open on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Field events at Friday's Bearson-Gathje Classic will begin at 2:00 p.m with the track events to follow at 3:30 p.m.
Fellow NSIC teams entered into the meet include the host school of Minnesota State University, Mankato, Concordia University, St. Paul, and Winona State University.
Just across the bridge on Saturday at the Twin Ports Open, field events will commence at 11:30 a.m, with the 60m prelims scheduled to start off on the track at 12:30p.m.
The weekend is certainly slated to be a busy one for the Bulldogs, but head coach Brette Jensen is optimistic about the opportunities it holds for the teams.
"With our student athletes returning from winter break, we're kicking off the season with two highly competitive meets. These competitions will provide our team members with excellent opportunities to demonstrate the progress and improvements they've made over the past semester of training," said Jensen. "It's an exciting time as we build momentum for the rest of the season!"
