UMD Men’s Basketball Ushers in the New Year with 83-72 Win Over NSU

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team welcomed in the new year in winning fashion tonight, defeating the Northern State University Wolves 83-72 in their opening matchup of 2025.

Final Score: UMD (83) - NSU (72)

After falling behind 40-37 to open the first half, UMD collected their first major scoring run of the night with eight unanswered points with 2:05 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Jayden Johnson, to take a 45-40 lead. The Bulldogs lost some of that lead before the end of the half, but still entered the break with a 45-43 advantage. UMD got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 45 total points.

Following intermission, UMD kept the momentum going and continued to widen their lead, expanding it to 62-57 before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 72-57 with 7:11 to go in the contest. The Wolves attempted to narrow the margin before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still cruised the rest of the way for the 83-72 win.
