Xada Johnson and
Mollie Rupp combined for 24 kills to lead the No. 13 University of Minnesota Duluth Volleyball Team (14-2, 7-2 NSIC) to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 road sweep of Jamestown (7-9, 2-7 NSIC) Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at Harold Newman Arena. Johnson paced the Bulldogs with 13 kills, while adding eight digs and two block assists, and Rupp tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs to go along with two service aces.

Kylie Broten and
Kendra Behrens, who made her first-career start, each had five kills. Broten added eight total blocks, matching her career-high with three solo blocks, and
Ava Jones matched her career-best with four total blocks and dished out 32 assists.
Madison Reed led all players with 17 digs.

UMD hit .158 while holding the Jimmies to a .031 hitting percentage, it also held the advantage in kills (40-31), assists (35-31) and digs (65-60).

The Maroon and Gold jumped on top of Jamestown early thanks to a pair of 4-0 runs behind the serving of
Georgia Koscielak and Rupp and a 5-0 run behind the serving on
Julianne Hon that made the score 13-4. They pulled ahead by 10 on a kill from
Grace Mueller and an attack error from the Jimmies. As Jamestown attempted a late comeback, UMD maintained composure with crucial points from Johnson, Behrens and Rupp to secured the opening-set win.

In the second set, the two teams traded points with neither side managing to secure a decisive lead until the Bulldogs capitalized on consecutive errors by Jamestown, stretching the lead to 22-20. They sealed the set with back-to-back kills from Rupp, a home team error, and a block from Jones and Broten, culminating in a 25-20 victory. Rupp had five kills in the set and Broten totaled six blocks in the frame.

The Bulldogs notched their highest attack percentage in the third set with a .263 mark, getting six kills from Johnson and five from Rupp. Jamestown managed to hang with the Maroon and Gold for the first seventeen points, but a 3-0 run gave the visitors a six-point lead, 13-7. The Bulldogs maintained a seven-point advantage and forced Jamestown to take a timeout at 21-14. The Jimmies tried to make a comeback with a 4-1 run, but a block from Broten and a kill from Rupp put the match away.

Looking ahead, UMD will travel to face the University of Minnesota Crookston October 16 at 6 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium, before returning home to host MSU Moorhead October 18 at 2 p.m. at Romano Gymnasium.
