The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston Sunday at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field in Crookston, Minn.
The win kept the Bulldogs perfect in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on the weekend and gives UMD a two-game winning streak.
Despite a 14-4 shots on goal advantage overall in the game, the Bulldogs one and only goal came in the 78th minute of the match.
Juliana Zerna hit a cross through the box that
Elaina Shromoff finished off for game-winning goal. For Shromoff, it was the midfielder's team-leading sixth goal of the season. Shromoff is the first UMD player since Jackie Jares posted eight goals in 2023 to score six or more goals in a season, and just the third player since 2018 to reach the mark.
Senior
Kaycee Chavez recorded her fourth shutout of the season with four saves. UMD also had a 10-4 corner kick advantage over the Golden Eagles, who got 14 saves from goalkeeper Jordan Metz. UMC falls to 1-10-2, and 0-9-1 in the NSIC with the loss.
The Bulldogs (5-5-3, 4-4-2), now back to .500 in their record, will host Winona State University Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before welcoming Concordia St. Paul at noon Sunday to James S. Malosky Stadium.
