UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.

After a seven-point weekend, University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey sophomore winger Jayson Shaugabay has been named the National College Hockey Conference's Forward of the Week.

The Warroad, Minn. native averaged 3.50 points per game against Bemidji State University, helping the Bulldogs sweep the Beavers in the home and away series. Shaugabay had four points Friday night in Bemidji -- a goal and three assists for a career point high -- before following that up with a two goal, one assist performance Saturday night. The winger had a power play goal and a game-winner Saturday, which was the third time in his short career that he's recorded a two-goal game. The series also marked the first back-to-back games that Shaugabay has turned in three or more points in a game.

Shaugabay -- who figured in seven of UMD's 12 goals against BSU -- has logged at least a point in five of six games this season, and has four times registered multiple point contests. Currently, Shaugabay is tied for the second most points in the NCAA (4-8=12), and is also tied for the second most points per game (2.00 ppg).

UMD has now had four NCHC weekly award winners so far this season. This is Shaugabay's second conference weekly award -- he was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week back on Oct. 7, 2024 last season.

Shaugabay and the high scoring No. 18/19 Bulldogs will face-off with the No. 12 University of Minnesota this weekend in Minneapolis, Minn. The series will get underway on both Friday and Saturday at Mariucci Arena at 7:00 p.m.
