The University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team wasted no time Friday night in Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. reminding college hockey fans its brand new national ranking is for real – and may not be high enough.
The Bulldogs shutout the No. 12 University of Minnesota 3-0 to earn its first win on the Gophers' home ice since Oct. 22, 2021. The win runs UMD's winning streak to three games and the shutout gave sophomore goaltender Adam Gajan the first shutout of the season and second of his 28-game UMD career.
UMD's rookie line wasted no time getting on the board first, and it came off a rifled shot from freshman Daniel Shlaine. Shlaine carried the puck into the Gopher zone and unloaded a wrist shot under the blocker of Minnesota goaltender Luca Di Pasquo for the 1-0 lead at 6:59 of the opening frame.

Just over three minutes later, the Bulldogs needed just one shot on its red-hot power play to make it a 2-0 game. Jayson Shaugabay slid the puck through traffic in the slot (and a swipe by Max Plante out front) to Zam Plante, who hammered home his team-leading fourth power play goal of the season to push UMD ahead 2-0.

The Bulldog defense, which started in the back with Gajan's outstanding backstopping effort, did the rest, and allowed just five shots in the final 20 minutes of play. In all, UMD outshot the Gophers 24-17 – the Bulldogs fourth game this season, keeping its opponents to 17 or fewer shots. Gajan made saves on all 17 shots he faced, while Di Pasquo made 21 for the Gophers, who fell to 2-4-1 with the loss.
