UMD Soccer Earns First Victory Over Jamestown 2-0

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team faced the University of Jamestown Jimmies for the first time in program history, winning 2-0 in Jamestown, North Dakota Friday afternoon.

The Bulldog victory comes in the program's first matchup with the Jimmies after they were added to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) this past July.

The first half saw the UMD and Jamestown defenses keep pressure off the goal for the first 42 minutes. Kami Beavers scored her first goal as a Bulldog after receiving a well-timed assist from Elaina Shromoff to mark a 1-0 lead three minutes before halftime. The Jimmies did not respond with a single shot attempt before the clock ran out.

In the final half, both defenses repeated strong efforts, but again the Jimmies cracked under the Bulldog's offensive pressure with 12 minutes remaining. This time, the goal came from a solo effort from Miriam Marsan, firing one shot that was blocked, but she regained control over the ball to fire another shot past the goalie. With a 2-0 lead, the Bulldogs stifled Jamestown, only allowing two more shot attempts.

Overall, UMD doubled Jamestown offensively with 20 shots to the Jimmies' seven. Senior goalkeeper Kaycee Chavez earned four saves and advanced to a 6-6-3 overall record. Jamestown's Skylar Lind fended off eight shots and fell to a 2-11-1 record.

The Bulldogs (6-6-4, 5-5-3) will travel to Aberdeen, North Dakota, on Sunday for their second-to-last matchup of the regular season, where they will face Northern State University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
