Bulldog Soccer Falls 3-1 to Minot State at Home

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback to Minot State University Friday night inside James S. Malosky Stadium on Griggs Field in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.

The Beavers erupted for three unanswered goals in less than three minutes midway through the first half, beginning at the 22:50 mark. Sabrina Amezcua scored on the back post off a long throw in, and MSU then made it 2-0 at 24:31 on a goal from Birttney Egbert. The Beavers rounded out their scoring just over a minute later on Anna Miotto's fourth of the season, and just like that, UMD was chasing a 3-0 game.

That score would hold despite a 5-2 shots advantage in the second half for the Bulldogs. UMD finally clawed its way on to the scoreboard in the 88th minute on a penalty shot goal from sophomore forward Alyssa Doyle, the first goal of her collegiate career.

Senior goaltender Kaycee Chavez had four saves for the Bulldogs, who outshot the Beavers with nine shots on goal to MSU's seven. UMD also had a 9-3 corner kick attempt advantage. The Beavers got eight stops from goaltender Rebecaa Sargent, who helped MSU improve to 3-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play.

The Bulldogs (3-3-2, 2-2-1) will return to Malosky Stadium on Sunday to host the University of Mary. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
