Shaelyn Hostager Qualifies for NCAA Cross Country Championships

University of Minnesota Duluth graduate  Shaelyn Hostager, has qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. The championships will be held Saturday, November 22 at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside will serve as the host. The women's race will begin at 10:00 a.m.

While the Bulldog program most recently sent a team to the national meet in 2022 and has sent eight teams to the meet since 2011, Hostager is just the third individual qualifier since 2010, when Morgan Place finished fifth overall – the second highest finish by a Bulldog in championship history. Last season, fifth-year Franny Seidel qualified -- Hostager and Seidel's qualifications are the first back-to-back UMD individual efforts since Place went on her own three seasons in a row (2008, 2009, and 2010).

Hostager, whose 10th place last weekend was the highest finish in an NCAA Central Region Championship by a UMD runner in three seasons, earned the graduate All-Region accolades. Hostager ran a 21:23.35 to pace the Bulldogs, and has paced the Bulldogs as its top runner in every race she has run this season.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this past weekend. Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. A live webstream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com from 10:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
