UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.Â
For a second time this season, University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey sophomore defenseman
Ty Hanson was named the National College Hockey Conference's Defenseman of the Week on Tuesday.
The Hermantown, Minn. product led the NCHC with seven blocked shots, including four in Friday's 4-3 overtime win over the No. 8 University of North Dakota. Hanson also notably scored the game-winning goal in overtime, just 43 seconds into extra time and posted an assist for a total of two points in the series.
Currently number two in the nation with a plus/minus rating of +11 that only trails teammate
Max Plante (+13), Hanson is also in tie as the third highest-scoring defenseman in the NCAA, with 10 points in 10 games on three goals -- which includes two game-winning tallies -- and seven assists. Hanson also leads UMD in time on ice, averaging 23:53 minutes a game.
