No. 25 Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets at No. 10 St. Cloud State

The No. 25 University of Minnesota Duluth Volleyball Team fell in straight sets, 23-25, 9-25, 18-25, on the road at No. 10 St. Cloud State Friday night at Halenbeck Hall. The loss dropped the Bulldogs' record to 17-7 overall and 10-7 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, while the Huskies moved to 20-6 on the season and 15-2 in league action.

Freshman Ella Chandler had nine kills and seven digs and senior Kylie Broten posted a .400 hitting percentage with eight kills and two block assists to pace the offense. Junior Madeline Guetzkow added seven kills and a team-high 13 digs. Sophomore Ava Jones dished out 23 assists and tallied six digs.

UMD battled the Huskies down to the wire in the opening set. It clawed its way back from a 10-18 deficit by stringing together a 10-2 run to even the score, 20-20, thanks to four kills from Broten and two kills from Chandler during the stretch. The Maroon and Gold took a 23-22 lead on an error by SCSU, but three-straight points from the home team put a stop to UMD's comeback run.

After dropping the second set 9-25, the Bulldogs regrouped in the third. The two teams were tied 13-13 through the first 26 points, but an 8-0 run from SCSU put the Maroon and Gold in a 21-13 deficit. UMD would get as close as six points before the Huskies closed it out.

The Bulldogs face their second-straight ranked opponent Saturday afternoon when they travel to Mankato, Minn., for a showdown with No. 24 Minnesota State at the Taylor Center to wrap their regular-season road schedule. The match is set to get underway at 2 p.m.
