This weekend the University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field teams will travel down to Mankato, Minn. and the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus to compete in the 2025 Indoor Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
Events will kick off on Friday, Feb. 28 at 12:00 p.m. with the women's pole vault. The women's distance medley relay will be the first running event of the day at 1:00 p.m.
On Saturday, March 1, women's triple jump will be the first field event of the day at approximately 1:00 p.m., and at 1:30 p.m., the women's mile will be the first running event.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs will look to their 800m runners for some crucial points. Senior Savannah Schley, fifth year Madeline Verkerke, and sophomore Rachel Ulrich are seeded second, fourth, and fifth in the event respectively.
Sophomore Erin Steinman is also predicted to come up big in the women's triple jump, in which she is currently seeded sixth.
Freshman Avary Fitzpatrick is another athlete to watch on the track. She currently sits sixth in the 600m and will also be part of the 4x400m relay team with junior Kate Fitzgerald, fifth year Megan Gilles, and Schley.
Fitzgerald will also race the open 200m race, as well as the distance medley with teammates Schley, Ulrich, and sophomore Ellie Hanowski.
The Bulldog men have high scoring potential on the runway, track, and in the ring.
Junior NSIC Athlete to Watch Jackson Weston is expected to be a double threat in the men's weight throw and shot put, in which he is seeded second.
The Bulldogs will also look to junior Will Heydt as a key contributor. He currently sits second on the conference performance list in the men's triple jump, and will also participate in the long jump for the team.
The fifth year duo of Owen Dickenson and Jack Van Kempen will look to run themselves to the top of the podium in the men's 3000m race. They are seeded second and third in respectively.
Van Kempen is also expected to come up big in the men's 5000m, based on his second place seeding in the event. Dickenson will also race the mile, in which he is seeded third.
Also watch for freshman Austin Kehr in the men's 600m race. He currently holds the no. 1 time in the event on the conference performance listings, and is also expected to be a key contributor on the men's 4x400m relay team with fellow freshman Billy Auvin, sophomore Brady Johnson, and junior Brock Unger.
