Weston Leads Successful Ted Nelson Classic for Both Bulldog Indoor Track Squads

The University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field teams saw a day of success and plenty of PRs at today's annual Ted Nelson Classic at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.

Leading the charge for the Bulldogs was Junior Jackson Weston in the men's shot put. His provisional qualifying toss of 17.20m is good for 14th in the nation as well as #3 all-time in program history. This toss was also good for first place and a PR.

The men's 3k was also dominated by the Bulldogs, with fifth year Owen Dickenson clinching a first place PR finish that also doubled as the sixth fastest time in program history (8:33.05). Fellow fifth year Jack Van Kempen finished right behind with a PR time of 8:34.20.

Another first place finish came from Junior Will Heydt in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.31m. Sophomore Jake Fier also saw success in the pit, taking second in the long jump with a bound of 6.38m.

Freshman Noah Rodenwald added another runner-up placing for the Bulldogs in the men's pole vault with a launch of 4.48m.

For the women, fifth year Madeline Verkerke took first in the 800m with a time of 2:14.47, with teammate senior Savannah Schley close behind in a time of 2:14.74. Both were provisional qualifying times.

Additionally, freshman Judsona Chea jumped herself to the top of the podium in the women's triple jump (10.97m).

Over on the track, several runner-up performances were turned in by the Bulldog women. In the 600m, freshman Avary Fitzpatrick ran a PR time of 1:39.21. Fifth year Megan Gilles also took second in a time of 9.11 in the 60m hurdles. Freshman Claire Becker added yet another runner-up PR performance in the 1000m (3:04.18).

Action will resume for the Bulldogs next Saturday at UW Superior for the Maday Classic.
