The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team geared up for a early morning Wednesday matchup in the RussMatt Central Florida Invite, falling 7-6 to the Rockhurst University Hawks in Davenport, Florida.

The Bulldogs got things going in the first as Nathan Rosenberg was able to reach on a two out double and then steal third base. After Troy Lynch would reach on a walk, Rosenberg came down to score on a wild pitch and move UMD ahead 1-0.

An RBI double for the Hawks in the bottom of the inning tied things all up at 1-1.

Kade Peloquin took his chance to respond in the top of the third, going yard for a leadoff home run. However, UMD's lead did not last very long as Rockhurst collected four runs in the bottom of the inning to push ahead 5-2.

The Bulldogs battled back in the fifth, getting to early walks to put runners in scoring position. Gabe Richardson was able to poke an RBI single out to the center field grass to score Michael Gabbard from third, with Rosenberg collecting his second double of the day to score Kade Peloquin.

With bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Lynch would send a two out single down the left field line to score Hayden Anthony and Gabbard and put UMD back in the lead 6-5.

Rockhurst was quick to answer back though, taking the lead right back with a bases loaded single and a wild pitch stolen base to build the scoreline to 7-6.

The 7-6 scoreline would hold till the end of the game, handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the 2025 RussMatt Invite and ending their five game win streak.

Bulldog baseball (7-3, 6-2 NSIC) continues their RussMatt Invite schedule tomorrow with a matchup against the Embry-Riddle University Eagles. First pitch against the Eagles is currently set for 12:00 PM (CST).
