The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team opened up their four game series against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars today, cashing in on a two run home run to walk off game one on their way to a day one sweep at US Bank Stadium.

Game One: UMD (5) - USF (3)

The Cougars (4-12) opened the scoring early in game one, loading the bases on a walk and back to back singles that would allow Frank Vogel to score on a fielder;s choice RBI from Isaac Bonner.

A couple of scoreless innings would break things up before the Bulldogs (4-2) took their chance to strike back in the bottom of the fourth, with Nathan Rosenberg knocking a triple into the center field gap before subsequently scoring on a USF balk.

UMD picked up the offensive momentum again in the bottom of the sixth. Gabe Richardson led things off by poking a double out to left field, leading the Bulldogs to load the bases on a pair of walks for Garrett Stauffacher and Joey Flom. With the bases full, Sam Kliber came up with a single of his own, picking up two RBIs and moving UMD ahead 3-1 before the end of the inning.

A similar situation would play out for USF in the top of the seventh, as they went on to knock a bases loaded single to tie up the game at 3-3 and send the early morning contest into extra innings.

The scoreline stayed tied heading into the bottom of the eighth, with the Bulldogs back up to the plate. A single from Michael Gabbard gave the opportunity for Stauffacher to head to the plate again and send a high flying home run over the left field wall to walk off the game for UMD 5-3.

Game Two: UMD (1) - USF (0)

The Bulldogs continued their momentum into game two of the afternoon, as they were the first to add to the scoreboard in the first inning.Â

A game-opening walk and pass ball found Kade Peloquin on second base early, allowing Richardson to collect another RBI hit as he sent a single out to left field to score Peloquin.

UMD's early 2-0 lead would hold for the rest of the game as Caden Klebba collected his second win and his first complete game of the season, going all seven innings and picking up five strikeouts along the way.

Bulldog baseball is back tomorrow at US Bank Stadium for another doubleheader with the Cougars before leaving for their annual appearance in the RussMatt Central Florida Invite. First pitch against USF tomorrow is currently set for 4:30 PM.
